Press Release Regarding The Letter Submitted By Iran To The International Atomic Energy Agency (iaea) In Accordance With The Joint Declaration , 24.05.2010
Iran has submitted today (24 May), within the envisaged time frame, a formal letter to H.E. Yukiya Amano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reconfirming its agreement with the Joint Declaration signed in Tehran on 17 May 2010 by Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Ahmet Davutoğlu and his Iranian and Brazilian counterparts, H.E. Mottaki and H.E. Amorim. Turkish Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Vienna and the Brazilian Chargé d'Affaires were present during the delivery of the said letter.
The above mentioned Joint Declaration offers a confidence building measure that would improve the psychological atmosphere needed for the success of the negotiation process between the P5+1 and Iran towards a diplomatic solution to the disagreement on Iran’s nuclear programme.
Following this significant step by Iran, we have full confidence that the Vienna Group, namely the IAEA, the USA, France and the Russian Federation, will also respond positively in order to put the measure into action, and will use the opportunity, ground and the dynamic created by the Joint Declaration in the best way.
The safekeeping in Turkey of the Low Enriched Uranium that will be exchanged with the nuclear fuel needed for medical purposes at the Tehran Research Reactor was part of the Joint Declaration. Turkey is ready to continue her contributions to the peaceful solution of the issue, including those with regard to the implementation of the Joint Declaration.
