Honorary Doctorate Degree To Mr. Andrew Mango , 24.09.2012
Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University bestowed an honorary doctorate degree to Mr. Andrew Mango, historian and writer, on 20 September 2012 at the reception hosted by H.E. Ünal Çeviköz, Ambassador of Turkey in London, at his residence.
Following the welcome and introductory speech of H.E. Çeviköz, the mentioned degree was bestowed to Mr. Mango by Prof. Handan Işın Özışık Karaman, Deputy Chancellor of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Distinguished members of the British academic circles and invitees from Turkish community in London were also present at the reception/ceremony.
At his speech during the ceremony, Mr. Mango stated that he has spent greater part of his life on understanding and narrating Turkey. He also mentioned visiting each and every corner of Turkey and publishing books about his birthplace country. He expressed his gratitude to H.E. Ambassador Çeviköz for hosting such a momentous event and to the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University for honoring him with the honorary doctorate degree.
Mr. Mango, who was born in Istanbul in 1926, is very well-known by his work and studies on Turkish history and Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Most particularly, his book, titled “Ataturk”, is accepted as one of the best biographies written about Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
